Dit hersengebied is voornamelijk verantwoordelijk voor de herkenning en evaluatie van situaties en voor de analyse van mogelijke risico&#8217;s en de daaruit voortvloeiende emotionele mechanismen. De amygdala regelt dus bijvoorbeeld onze agressie of angst. De tonsilkern be\u00efnvloedt met name ook de autonome functies van ons lichaam, zoals de bloedsomloop en de ademhaling. Als we ons hart tot in onze keel horen kloppen als we erg bang zijn, is de amygdala daarvoor verantwoordelijk. Om deze redenen wordt dit hersengebied ook wel beschouwd als het angstcentrum.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Hoe veroorzaakt de amygdala angst in ons?<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De amandelkern vergelijkt voortdurend situaties met informatie die in het verleden reeds is ervaren. Als zich bijvoorbeeld een omstandigheid voordoet die in de amygdala is opgeslagen als een &#8220;gevaarlijke&#8221; ervaring, wordt het lichaam op scherp gezet door het vrijkomen van de stresshormonen noradrenaline of adrenaline en wordt een angstreactie opgewekt. Dit resulteert in gevoelens en emoties zoals agressie, woede, verdriet, wat kan leiden tot bepaalde lichamelijke reacties zoals misselijkheid, duizeligheid of hartkloppingen<a title=\"Angst: Symptomen\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/angst-symptomen\/\">(symptomen van angst<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Netwerken in de hersenen spelen een belangrijke rol in dit proces, vooral omdat de amygdala via een zenuwverbinding tussen het amygdalacomplex en de basale ganglia verbonden is met het motorische systeem. Rationeel denken, dat verankerd is in de kleine hersenen, speelt geen rol omdat de informatie van de amygdala naar de grote hersenen veel sneller gaat dan omgekeerd. Nog voordat het rationele denken begint, zorgt de bliksemsnelle reactie van de amygdala ervoor dat de hersenen zeer snel met angst reageren op het overeenkomstige gevaar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Zoals studies hebben aangetoond (waaronder experimenten met mensen van wie de amygdala niet functioneerde of zelfs ontbrak door een ongeval dat de hersenen beschadigde), leidde de afwezigheid van een functionerende amygdala tot een groot verlies aan emoties. Zonder de interventie van de amygdala zouden we dus worden blootgesteld aan risico&#8217;s zonder bescherming, omdat, vooral in gevaarlijke situaties, geen beschermende reflex zou worden opgewekt door de afwezigheid van de angstreactie.\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"divider-html\" style=\"border-top: 1px solid #bbb; margin-top: 30px; margin-bottom: 30px;\">\n\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"section\"
