De meesten van ons zouden nee zeggen. En toch slagen kleinere insecten erin veel mensen angst aan te jagen. Bekend is bijvoorbeeld de <a title=\"Het overwinnen van spinnen angst met EMDR in Self-Coaching\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/het-overwinnen-van-spinnen-angst-met-emdr-in-self-coaching\/\">angst voor spinnen<\/a> en alles wat daarop lijkt. Voor sommigen is alleen al de gedachte aan een spin voldoende om de angstreactie in hun eigen lichaam te voelen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Hoe kan iets zo &#8220;klein&#8221; en in veel gevallen ongevaarlijk iets zo &#8220;machtig&#8221; doen? Want enorm is vaak de emotionele reactie die we voelen als angst in ons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Zo gaat het meestal met onze angsten: zelfs een kleine en onopvallende prikkel (trigger) kan bij iemand een sterke angstreactie veroorzaken. Bijzonder opmerkelijk is dat die angsttrigger bij een ander misschien slechts een lichte emotionele reactie kan oproepen; en angst zeker niet. Onze angsten zijn uiterst subjectief. Wat waarschijnlijk voortkomt uit het feit dat onze levenservaringen zeer verschillend zijn.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Om te kunnen begrijpen hoe angst bij iemand ontstaat of zich zelfs ontwikkelt tot een <a title=\"Als angst een ziekte wordt\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/als-angst-een-ziekte-wordt\/\">ziekte<\/a> die niet op eigen kracht kan worden overwonnen, is het nuttig de precieze oorzaken te begrijpen. Hoe ontstaan onze angsten en waarom vinden we het moeilijk ze kwijt te raken?<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Mowrer en zijn twee-factor theorie van angst<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De Amerikaanse psycholoog <a title=\"Orval Hobart Mowrer op wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Orval_Hobart_Mowrer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Orval Hobart Mowrer<\/a> stelde in 1947 in zijn twee-factortheorie van angst dat angsten<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>worden verworven door klassieke conditionering en<\/li>\n<li>door operante conditionering.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Klassieke conditionering stelt dat een oorspronkelijk neutrale stimulus (bijvoorbeeld een tandheelkundige behandeling) een angstopwekkende stimulus wordt wanneer deze gelijktijdig optreedt met een negatieve gebeurtenis (bijvoorbeeld, in het ergste geval, een traumatische ervaring). In de volgende stap probeert de getroffen persoon zijn angst te verminderen door bepaalde gedragingen. Er wordt bijvoorbeeld afgezien van een bezoek aan de tandarts (vermijding). Tanden worden ook bijzonder grondig gereinigd om een dergelijk bezoek te voorkomen. Dit proces wordt dan operante conditionering genoemd.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Het uiterst negatieve aspect van dit proces is dat de getroffenen door dit vermijdingsgedrag nooit meer zullen kunnen ervaren dat er in verreweg de meeste gevallen niets ergs gebeurt tijdens een tandheelkundige behandeling. Dit komt omdat de getroffenen elke situatie die zij als beangstigend ervaren vermijden. Het verband tussen de negatieve ervaring, die in de toekomst zal worden herinnerd met onaangename lichamelijke reacties, en de stimulerende prikkel wordt gelegd in de hersenen, meer bepaald in de amygdala. <a title=\"Hoe angst wordt aangeleerd met behulp van somatische markers\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/hoe-we-angst-leren-met-behulp-van-somatische-markers\/\">Somatische markers<\/a> spelen een zeer belangrijke rol bij het aanleren van angst, met behulp waarvan de <a title=\"Angst: Hoe de amygdala onze angsten controleert\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/angst-hoe-de-amygdala-onze-angsten-controleert\/\">amygdala<\/a> een soort lichaamsgeheugen cre\u00ebert. De <a title=\"Angst: Hoe de amygdala onze angsten controleert\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/angst-hoe-de-amygdala-onze-angsten-controleert\/\">amygdala<\/a> wordt beschouwd als het emotionele centrum van onze angst. Deze staat ook bekend als de amygdala en is met name verantwoordelijk voor de ontwikkeling en beheersing van angstgedrag.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Welke individuele oorzaken de angst kan hebben<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Volgens gedragsmatige benaderingen wordt aangenomen dat angst gebaseerd is op aangeleerd gedrag. Een dergelijk aangeleerd gedrag is aanwezig als het bezoek aan de tandarts extreem pijnlijk was of als bijvoorbeeld een klein kind van grote hoogte valt, zich bezeert en vanaf dat moment aan extreme hoogtevrees lijdt. Het kind zal in de toekomst grote hoogtes vermijden. Dit komt omdat de getroffenen snel reageren door angstopwekkende situaties te vermijden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Bovendien neemt het risico toe dat de getroffen persoon nu een instabiel vegetatief zenuwstelsel heeft met betrekking tot zijn angst, dat bijzonder heftig en snel reageert op belangrijke prikkels (hoogtes van welke aard dan ook). Hierdoor ontstaan onbedoeld negatieve associaties die de vroegere valervaring kunnen ontwikkelen tot een angst voor alle situaties waarin de betrokkene met hoogtes geconfronteerd kan worden (ook al zijn die maar gering).<br \/>\n<br class=\"clear\">Zo kan elke gebeurtenis die gepaard gaat met een sterke negatieve emotionele opwinding en het gevoel overweldigd te worden, in de toekomst fungeren als een belangrijke angstprikkel. En de daaruit voortvloeiende angsten, die ons moeten waarschuwen en beschermen tegen gevaar, schieten vaak hun doel voorbij. Dus de vraag is, zijn onze angsten functioneel of beperken ze ons? Beperkende angsten maken vaak deel uit van het dagelijks leven, een <a title=\"Als angst een ziekte wordt\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/als-angst-een-ziekte-wordt\/\">pathologische manifestatie<\/a> is meestal nog ver weg.
