Als deze persoon hoogtevrees heeft en zich duizelig voelt bij een diepe kloof, is daar een begrijpelijke reden voor. Angst wordt immers verondersteld ons te waarschuwen voor risico&#8217;s, zoals het gevaar van vallen. Dit voorkomt dus dat we ons verder wagen en een veilige afstand tot de afgrond bewaren.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De hoogtevrees heeft dus een begrijpelijke biologische basis. Concreet gaat het om hoogte- of afstandsvertigo, die optreedt door een destabilisatie van de houding wanneer de afstand tussen onze ogen en het dichtstbijzijnde zichtbare vaste voorwerp te groot is. Het lichaam kan zichzelf niet langer stabiliseren. Ons hoofd moet een beetje schommelen om het object in de verte scherp te kunnen zien. Tegelijkertijd slingert het hele lichaam bij afwezigheid van laterale vaste punten als gevolg van positiereflexen. Intensief slingeren op een blootgestelde plaats gaat gepaard met een verhoogd valrisico wegens het gevreesde verlies van controle. Dit veroorzaakt een reflexmatige reactie in de hersenen, die leidt tot het vrijkomen van de stresshormonen noradrenaline en adrenaline en aanleiding geeft tot hoogtevrees. Dit resulteert in hoogtevrees, \u00e9\u00e9n van de twee categorie\u00ebn van hoogtevrees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">De andere categorie is angst om te vallen, ook bekend als het klif fenomeen. Deze angst om te vallen is aangeboren en houdt niet noodzakelijk verband met negatieve ervaringen.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Wanneer angst het kleed onder je voeten vandaan trekt&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Deze angsten, die dienen als alarmsysteem, hebben we te danken aan onze voorouders, die in bepaalde situaties alleen een crash konden voorkomen als ze snel reageerden. Hoogtevrees is dus een fundamenteel biologisch instinct, dat in de meeste gevallen normaal en ongevaarlijk is. Een misselijk gevoel en een zekere onrust zijn hier volkomen normaal. In het dagelijks leven kunnen de meeste mensen vaak vrij goed omgaan met hoogtevrees, ook al wordt het als vervelend ervaren en een overweldigende belemmering op sommige gebieden van het leven.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Als de hoogtevrees echter een onverklaarbaar en irrationeel hoog niveau aanneemt, waarop de betrokkenen reageren met paniek of extreme hartkloppingen, kan deze angst zeer belastend zijn en <a title=\"Als angst een ziekte wordt\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/als-angst-een-ziekte-wordt\/\">pathologische<\/a> kenmerken aannemen. Typische symptomen<a title=\"Angst: Symptomen\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/angst-symptomen\/\">(angstsymptomen<\/a>) van extreme hoogtevrees zijn kortademigheid, extreme duizeligheid, angst en paniekaanvallen. In dit geval is het leven ernstig beperkt en aangetast. De <a title=\"Als angst een ziekte wordt\" href=\"https:\/\/remstim.com\/nl\/als-angst-een-ziekte-wordt\/\">pathologische<\/a> vorm heet <a title=\"Acrofobie door Wikipedia\" href=\"http:\/\/de.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Akrophobie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acrofobie<\/a>: zie ook <a title=\"ICD-code\" href=\"http:\/\/www.icd-code.de\/icd\/code\/F40.01.html\">ICD-10; F40.2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Deze informatie is voldoende voor degenen onder ons die zich niet regelmatig over verhoogde objecten hoeven te verplaatsen. Toch is hoogtevrees voldoende om een geplande skivakantie (alpineski\u00ebn) te bederven. Het uitzicht vanaf de 3000 meter hoge bergtop gevolgd door een afdaling kan een genot zijn dat u niet wilt missen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Dus hoe komen we van onze hoogtevrees af of verminderen we de angstreactie tot een draaglijk en functioneel niveau?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Een zeer goede kans om grip te krijgen op de eigen (niet-zieke) hoogtevrees biedt zelfcoaching met EMDR.
