EMDR Coaching: effective & efficient

Why EMDR coaching is so intense, effective & efficient

Why EMDR Intensive Workshops are so effective and efficientEMDR coaching is different from most coaching sessions you may have attended to date. Conventional coaching typically aims to provide you with new courses of action, behavioral patterns, and skills through knowledge transfer and exercises. Skepticism, differing views, and a lack of insight on your part can quickly undermine the purpose and desired changes of the coaching. Read on to learn what happens differently in EMDR coaching and why it brings about truly lasting change.

In EMDR coaching, something completely different happens:

In EMDR coaching, your emotions and your emotional memory (somatic markers) are the focus. Because you can only achieve real change through your body memory, on which your beliefs and convictions also depend.

Insight, openness, and benevolent willingness, which are important prerequisites for successful goal achievement in ordinary coaching, are not necessary in EMDR coaching. As long as you agree to take advantage of EMDR coaching and follow the coaching process, the amount of inner resistance and skepticism or even fear you harbor usually no longer matters for successful goal achievement. Neither knowledge transfer nor advice that you should be convinced of are the focus of an EMDR workshop.

EMDR coaching is ideally suited to individually address key topics and successfully anchor the content. Any existing skepticism, doubts and resistance are reduced at the same time.

Within the framework of the chosen coaching topic, your personal emotional reaction and thus your previous perception are positively changed in a targeted manner by the EMDR coaching. Please read more about this under Stimulation Effects of EMDR.

What does intensive mean?

This is also why our EMDR coaching sessions are so-called intensive coaching sessions. You have an intense experience; you regularly experience an emotional re-evaluation during the coaching. Experiencing change in one’s emotions and thoughts is the focus. New individual options for action, behavior patterns and skills emerge as if by magic. You will be able to use your own skills and resources in a new way in the future. This is made possible, and particularly sustainable, thanks to an emotional re-evaluation of the circumstances and situations relevant to the topic.

The specific personal guidance for EMDR techniques makes remote EMDR coaching possible.

EMDR coaching has typically been used in personal one-on-one coaching, where the coach and coachee are in the same room. The coach guides the coachee and leads them through the coaching process. Usually because the intervention technique of EMDR, stimulating rapid eye movements must be used regularly in the coaching process. Thanks to special guidance and experience, it is possible to enable the stimulation of eye movements remotely through special EMDR techniques, and to offer effective EMDR coaching remotely and thus online.

Personal remains personal

With EMDR coaching, it is possible to leave your own topics unspoken, i.e., to keep them secret. This approach is called “covert work.” No one is forced to share their own beliefs and thoughts.

Frequently Asked Questions about Coaching

Yes. EMDR online coaching is now a proven and viable form of support. What is crucial is not the shared location, but a clearly guided process, a reliable relationship, and the targeted application of the EMDR method. Many people even find working remotely particularly safe because they can stay in their familiar environment. The spatial distance often creates exactly the inner protection that makes it easier to address sensitive topics.

No. You do not need any prior knowledge. EMDR online coaching is aimed at people who want to work with EMDR for the first time, as well as those who have already gained their own experience. In coaching, you will be guided step by step through the process. You don’t have to “know” or prepare anything – orientation, structure and security arise from working together.

No. Your topics remain your topics. In EMDR online coaching, it is possible to process content covertly, i.e. without expressing details. You decide at any time what you want to share and what you don’t. The process can still be effectively supported because the coach guides you through the individual steps via structure, timing and clear signals. Many people find this relieving and respectful.

You are in continuous contact with the EMDR coach during the coaching – by phone or video. The coach gives clear signals, explains the individual steps and accompanies you attentively through the process. When an EMDR intervention is pending, follow it at your own pace. Nothing happens abruptly or uncontrollably. The coach remains present, regulating and approachable throughout the session.

No. A special device can be helpful, but is not a prerequisite. What is crucial is that the bilateral stimulation is applied safely and the process is well guided. Whether and which aids are useful will be discussed individually and without obligation. There is no need to use EMDR glasses. There are alternative and reliable techniques.

No. EMDR online coaching is coaching and not psychotherapy. It requires normal mental and physical resilience and is aimed at stressful topics and inner processes that are not classified as a disease requiring treatment. Should it become apparent during the conversation that therapeutic support would be useful, this will be addressed openly and responsibly.

This concern is understandable and very human. In EMDR online coaching, you retain control at all times. You determine the pace and depth. The coach pays attention to stability, orientation and clear steps. Working remotely is experienced by many as protective because it provides security and at the same time enables professional support.

The EMDR online coaching is personally accompanied by Thomas Buhl. He is a non-medical practitioner for psychotherapy, an experienced EMDR therapist and coach, and the developer of the EMDR self-coaching method and the EMDR glasses REMSTIM 3000. His work is characterized by clarity, calm and respectful process support.
