Back to the 3rd step: Determine body sensations…
4th step of EMDR self-coaching: Intervention with the REMSTIM 3000 (Processing)
- Inwardly perceive your subject and emotion(s). Feel your physical sensation (also non-sensation) now!
- Now start an application of the REMSTIM 3000
- Breathe calmly and regularly!
- When the REMSTIM 3000 application is finished, take a deep breath and release as you exhale.
- What has changed internally? Observe your emotion(s), your body feeling, when you now think of your topic from the beginning (associations?).
Go back to the beginning, to the first point of the intervention (4th step) and start the process again. Go through the process as many times as you want. For example, until you feel distanced and liberated from your subject.
Continue to the 5th step of self-coaching: processing residual sensations…

Helpful tips:
Apply the intervention (processing) with the help of the REMSTIM 3000 in self-coaching with EMDR.
The 4th step consists of the central intervention. It is also called “processing” because the mental, emotional and physical states are “processed through” with the help of visual stimulation. This is where Rapid Eye Movement Stimulation occurs. Of course, bilateral stimulation can also be auditory or tactile. However, the EMDR method became famous for its rapid eye movements, which are reminiscent of REM phases during sleep. Observations suggest that visual stimulation is superior to the other forms, which ultimately varies from user to user.
It is especially helpful to exercise care in the EMDR Intervention step.
So just before an intervention, focus on your subject, notice your emotions, and feel inside yourself to become aware of your physical sensations. Once you’ve found what you’re looking for, start a set of quick eye movements. The best way to do this is with the REMSTIM 3000. This is because the EMDR device offers the advantage of guiding your eyes to a quick back and forth. You only need to follow the fine light pulse with your eyes. At the same time, you can turn your focus inward to see what happens during and after an intervention. Whatever it is, take it and run with it.
After each set of visual stimulation, take a moment to find out what has changed regarding your theme, emotions, and body sensations. Has a new image perhaps appeared in your mind’s eye? Are there any new associations? New emotions? Or has the location of your physical sensation changed within you? Has the emotional body marker inside you wandered and is making itself felt in another part of your body?
No matter what it is. Just notice it and start the EMDR intervention process of the 4th step again until you have reached an emotional and physical but also mental state that feels better with regard to your initial theme and you do not want to optimize it any further for the time being. Because you have the opportunity to do this in the next 5th step.
